Free Gift Transfers in Food Promotions

Albator offerte par Braisor (1979)

There you are, happily reading your Journal de Mickey, when suddenly…

pic

Wait… does that ad say "décalcomanies a sec"? — Let me take a closer look…

pic

It does! Quick — buy some on eBay! Well… half of them, anyway.

Here are the backing papers (with & without the transfers attached to the front)

By the way — "Albator" is the name of the French version of "Space Pirate Captain Harlock".

Note the name of the company running these sorts of promotions around this time: "Extension 21".

I'm afraid we don't have any of the packets with their four different backgrounds…

UPDATE: yes, we do — all of them! Read on…

A Glimpse of More Transfer Sheets

No scans yet for the other five sheets, but here are three of the remainder — edited from photos kindly sent to us by vintage33-addict:

Of the two we can't show you, you can at least get an idea of one; it's the top sheet in the Journal de Mickey ad, above.

And now the Packet Backs!

pic

Bruno (mapie-11 on eBay) had no less than fifteen of these packet backs, all completed with additional speech balloons plus other interesting & creative markings, as above: but by the time I contacted him, he had sold them all.
I asked him if we could use his auction photos:

"Oui avec grand plaisir :)"

It took a LOT of restoration work to get them clean & tidy, but I hope when you see them here below, you'll agree it was worth it.

pic

Some of the backs have "Braisor" & "Prior" in red, & others in green; each background can appear with either colour, so I don't know what the explanation is — if any!

pic

And naturally you will be dying to view a packet back back:
